A friend of mine pointed me to this article in Times of India. At the outset, I was amused by the title which read “In India, Even God is helpless”. I was like, that’s so true. But I read through the article and it was so apt and very shocking to see the highest legal organization (the Supreme Court) finding it tough with the Law Makers of India.

The article is about how Governments (both Central and State) don’t want to take action on government officials/ people linked to them exploiting government accommodation facilities like housing, guest house etc. There has been numerous articles and TV news on the same. But seems like government is just unable to do anything with them or make those squatters pay for the misuse.

Law Makers are infact Law Breakers. Take any aspect in running the party or the state or the central government, you are looking at support for the people running the show from people supporting them both directly and indirectly. It’s like you have mortgaged the legal and governing system to a pseudo-system that compels you to act in the best interest of your allies. A classic example of this in the recent past is the left withdrawing support and the fiasco after that. The left will not work towards forming the government themselves but will be working from outside to help keep the government running in the best interests of the common man. Seriously that ideology seems like a pun intended in the context of things that has transpired.

Fundamentally there is something wrong. I think long gone are the days where it was Government for the people, by the people and of the people. Now, the circle of people is more of people closely associated with the governing parties and allies whose help is critical to the functioning of the government. It’s like holding ’Mother India at Ransom’.

The word ‘Coalition’ Government seems to indicate strongly toward walking on the sword edge where one is more concerned about walking the entire sword, which is sharp, with the help of a rope tied to the handle. May be they forget that after the sword ends, they will have to get down. Or they might have to jump rather than exit safely. I think you get the point.

What aggravates this scene is community based politics. India cannot run on the interests of pockets of people with specific interests or targets. India should be run on the basis of growth in an overall sense. If growth or empowerment is really the target for all parties, governments, then India surely will see the resurfacing of Golden Age. May be a utopian thought, but the current setup doesn’t point even a bit towards that direction.
