Heard this from my friend and checked out the websites. Seems like Bangalore is in a bad state today with five to seven blasts(the count as of now - no clear number yet) and few people injured/dead.

Check NTDV here for a webcast http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/videopod/default.aspx

IBN Live and Rediff has some news on the blasts.

Update 11:59 PM:

The total number of blasts are nine. All seem to have been low intensity ones(triggered by mobile devices) but the damage has been done. Here is a more detailed coverage from Sachin Uppal (He also lists the news sites and other blogs covering it). I believe the death count is around 2-3 (various versions in different sites - CNN says officially one person has died - not sure what that means) and the injured is around 70 of them.

What is ANNOYING is the following: Ministry of State (MoS) apparently had forewarned attacks. After every attack(for almost a decade now), there is always a statement that says that  there were some intelligence indicating about the attacks.

  • Why the HELL that no protection agency seem to get there before the blasts happen?
  • Why do politicians always say some premeditated plans to be at the heart of such activities?
  • Such blasts are not new to India starting from(atleast what I remember) the Coimbatore blasts in the late 90’s. Since then, the only thing that has been consistent is the long and delayed court proceedings to bring some miscreants to Justice.
  • Other than that, government comes - government goes, people just seem to suffer always.

I heard Mohandas Pai, Director-HR, Infosys, say on television today that they have been asking the government to beef up security for IT institutions for a long time now and that the government has not done much about. Why can’t the IT Majors REALLY PUT THEIR FOOT DOWN and hold fort until changes are implemented. Agreed that IT doesn’t contribute immensely to the growth of the country in terms of revenue, but it should is one of the impactful areas in India and the world today. People from various political parties create riots, stage dharnas and do road roko andholan at will. May be its time for common man to come out and plead sincerely for their security, if not, anything else.
