The latest fad for all the politicians - “IPL Cheerleaders  are spoiling India’s Culture”. This is not new, every month they have a quota of how many trivial problems can they glorify and make a PR strategy about it.

A few months ago it was the question of regionalism and how in a particular state, people from other states shouldn’t live-work. Is it heights of insecurity or insanity?

Before that it was the turn of the health minister banning or rather going all out publicly to admonish celebrities to stop smoking, drinking or championing related products.

There are other groups which want to ban films from other states from being played in their state, when more than 40% of people are from that other state in question.

There has been another confusing topic of reservation, which is good when based on economic conditions, but is now mostly a political propaganda or election manifesto item.

Like the coffybite ad, the list continues….

I can keep quoting such instances and I would like to declare that my intention is not to say what is right or wrong. My focus is to request all the people involved in such controversial initiatives: look at India, look at the condition of living, look at the current state of affairs and see what you can do about it now. The focus should be on ’solving’ problems that are widespread, that making mountains out of trivial non-issues.

  • Why can not these political parties work on cleaning up the city?
  • Why can they not work on getting better drainage facilities?
  • Why can not they make sure that the garbage disposal is in allotted places and not on the roadsides and in the open?
  • Why can not  they fight for better roads?
  • Why can not they fight for proper traffic system?

Please note, I am not talking about corruption and all the other hi-fi things which need a revolution (in short a ‘miracle’). I am talking about mid-level stuff that pertains to all people in common.

The whole world is embracing so many good things, but we seem to be more worried about sustaining our piece of land. It is our right to fight, but fight for things that can be resolved and that should be resolved. My view is neither about solving grass root problems nor the deep-rooted problems. Both need to be cleaned up, but just work on the mid-level ones, then people will have confidence and help others and in turn the nation to solve the grassroots and deep roots.

And if it is survival instincts, then I am sure they can get creative about it if they use their brains!!!

One Response to “Stop Cribbing about IPL Cheerleaders - There are other problems too?!!”

  1. Hi Shiva!

    Hmmm…
Building good roads, tanks, drains, transportation, planting trees, etc, etc, etc, were fashionable during the days of Ashoka (the Great) but slowly lost luster during the period of Akbar (the Great). Today it is terribly out of fashion. Cheerleaders and heroines wearing skimpy outfits are the in-thing! Yo Man! Update yourself

Whose bothered about good roads? I am happy travelling up and down (literally) to office and back along bumpy and dusty main roads that would remind you of our ancestral village! Yo Man! Grow up!

In politics you need to be noticed. Good roads and drainages will not get you noticed (hey, don’t you know that the Aam janata have very short memory?) rake up religious issues about a bridge build once upon a time by a drunkard called - nah, I don’t wann amention His name… rake up about the skimpy outfits of tinsel town damsels (who throw our haloed culture to the winds - how dare they!)… and rake up issues about cheerleaders and bar girls. Now you are pulling attention!
