Here is an interesting competition/awards called ‘Crunchies‘ and their first annual competition for the 2007 just got over and they winners list is out.
For people who are not aware of ‘Crunchies‘, here is a small write up from TechCrunch and I quote therefrom
“The 2007 Crunchies is our first annual competition and award ceremony to recognize and celebrate the most compelling startups, internet and technology innovations of the year. The Crunchies is a collaboration project between GigaOm, Read/WriteWeb, VentureBeat and TechCrunch. Best of all, the internet community is invited to choose who wins. “
The list of winners are as follows:
o Best overall: Facebook

o Most likely to succeed: WordPress
The list of winners is covered in GigaOm and TechCrunch. Please visit them for more details.
What I am glad to see is what GigaOm, Read/WriteWeb, VentureBeat and TechCrunch are looking in for a winner. If you look at the Award Sections, it is quite neat in that it covers an assortment of principles that one would expect either in startups or innovations in technology/internet.
Some of the categories that impressed me are ‘Best bootstrapped startup’, ‘Best business model’, ‘Best user-generated content’ and ‘Best clean tech startup’. A couple of them were very unique: of the unique awards are ‘Most likely to make the world a better place’ and ‘Most likely to succeed’.
While everyone on the winners list is great, some of the winners that impressed me are earthmine, techmeme and tesla motors.
Kudos to the team behind ‘Crunchies‘ and to the winners!
